TSMC offers 30% more for US-made chips, 15% more for Japan-made chips, report says Brand

According to DigiTimes, semiconductor chips made at TSMC's US plants have no price advantage in terms of cost, and are quoted at 30% higher than those made at TSMC's other plants, IT House reported on May 3.
The report states that TSMC's N4 and N5 processes in the US are about 20 to 30 percent more expensive, while chips made at TSMC's Kumamoto plant in Japan at the N28 / N22 and N16 / N12 nodes are 10 to 15 percent more expensive.
TSMC plans to pass on the higher costs of manufacturing fabs in the US and Japan to its customers so that it can maintain its 53% gross margin target.
US customers, including AMD and Nvidia, are continuing negotiations with TSMC and may shift some orders to Samsung foundries to balance their budgets.
IT House has also learned from the report that Nvidia will use Intel's 18A and 20A technology to make chips in addition to choosing Samsung foundries. But as chip designs also become more complex and costly, it will be difficult for chip design companies to order similar chips from both TSMC and Samsung.
