China chips: imports down 24.2%, exports down 17.2% #semiconductors

Recently, China Customs published the national import and export key commodities volume and value table (USD) for May 2023.
The data shows that in May this year, the import and export quantities of Chinese IC products were 39.64 billion and 21.3 billion units respectively, and the total import and export value was US$26.357 billion and US$9.834 billion respectively.
Cumulatively, in the first five months of this year (January-May), China's imports of integrated circuit products 186.48 billion units, compared with 231.98 billion units in the first five months of 2022, down 19.6% year-on-year; exports of 103.43 billion units, compared with 117.14 billion units in the same period last year, down 11.7% year-on-year.
In terms of total imports and exports, the first five months, China's total imports of integrated circuit products 131.9 billion U.S. dollars, down 24.2% year-on-year, total exports of 52.57 billion U.S. dollars, down 17.2% year-on-year.
Chip sales in China up 2.9% YoY in April
Currently, despite the continued weakness of the semiconductor industry boom and global economic headwinds exacerbating the market downturn, the Chinese chip market appears to be performing well.
According to the latest report recently released by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), in April this year, global semiconductor chip sales were US$40 billion, down 21.6% year-on-year and up 0.3% sequentially.
And from the perspective of regional sales performance, in addition to the Chinese market chip sales rose 2.9%, Japan's market rose 0.9%, in addition to other markets in Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific chip sales were recorded a decline of 0.6%, 1.0% and 1.1%, respectively.
